Weezer’s surprise “Teal Album” headed to top 10 on “Billboard” 200

Crush Music/Atlantic RecordsWeezer‘s surprise covers album, the Teal Album, is expected to vault into the top 10 on next week’s Billboard 200.

The collection, which features Weezer-ized versions of songs including TLC‘s “No Scrubs,” Black Sabbath‘s “Paranoid” and, of course, Toto‘s “Africa,” dropped without warning last Thursday. Because it was released on the final day of a Billboard tracking week, it only was able to rack up one day of sales, leading to a debut on this week’s Billboard 200 at number 47.

However, now that it has a full week of tracking under its belt, Billboard estimates that the Teal Album will jump into the top 10 of the next edition of the Billboard 200, with sales of around 35,000 equivalent album units.

Meanwhile, Weezer plans to release a new, original album, the Black Album, on March 1. They’ll launch a U.S. tour with Pixies March 8 in Louisville, Kentucky.
