Live NationLive Nation’s National Concert Week promotion, offering $20 tickets to tons of rock tours this upcoming summer and fall, begins Wednesday at 9 a.m. PT. Papa Roach‘s Jacoby Shaddix feels that the promotion will help “invigorate the rock fan-base.”
“I’m no stranger to having some tough times in life and whatnot, when finances ain’t exactly always what you want them to be, but you still wanna get out and have some fun,” Shaddix tells ABC Radio. “I think it’s a win-win for the fan and the artists, as well.”
“I think it’s a good thing to have tickets readily available for those people who maybe can’t afford a normal-priced concert ticket,” adds Shinedown‘s Zach Myers. “It’s a cool thing when bands do things like this, it means a lot to fans, I know, who are maybe having a tough summer or working a summer job just to make money.”
In the case of Live‘s Ed Kowalczyk, affordable concert tickets are a major reason he’s even making music. As he tells ABC Radio, when he was 16, he got a $50 ticket to see U2, which also included fare for a bus ride from his hometown of York, Pennsylvania to the concert in Philadelphia.
“I thought that was a pretty smokin’ deal,” Kowalczyk remembers. “I think if it was, like, $100, I may not have seen that concert, which would’ve had a not-a-good effect on my [life].
“It was so inspiring that I can’t imagine that I wouldn’t have been able to go to that,” he adds. “Because I pretty much decided I wanted to be in a rock band after that show.”
